The Presidential Dogs

If  President Grover Cleveland - our 22nd and 24th US President can own and care for a pooch - why can't you?  President Grover Cleveland owned a Poodle and although we don't know the name, we do know that his pup was his only pet and he loved the dog dearly.

Theodore Roosevelt - our 26th U.S. President was a true dog lover, he owned the following dogs:
  • Bull Terrier
  • Rat Terrier
  • Terriers
  • Manchester Terrier Manchu
  • Pekingese
  • Saint Bernard
  • Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Gerald Ford - our 38th U.S. President owned Liberty - a beautiful Golden Retriever born February 8, 1974 and given to Susan Ford as an 8-month-old puppy. Later Misty was born from Liberty Liberty was quite famous because of her visits to Camp David and her relaxing in the Oval Office with President Gerald Ford. This is one of the most lovely stories of love and compassion for a pet.

Most all of our Presidents were dog owners - maybe because they loved them no matter what and didn't care that they were truly the "commander and chief" of a country. Maybe because at the end of the day the dogs were truly happy to see them and expected nothing in return. With the re-election of our President - Barack Obama - (our 44th President) his dog Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog will serve a second term as well.

Although we have no official title of "First Dog of the United States of America" - it is certain that these pets served our country well.  At Cabo Dog - we salute all the Presidential Dogs - for a job WELL DONE.
